MCDOT’s Division of Transportation Engineering Expects to Finish Installing Sidewalk along Needwood Road this Summer

Montgomery County Department of Transportation's (MCDOT) Division of Transportation Engineering is installing pervious concrete sidewalk along Needwood Road.

The project to enchance pedestrian and bicycle safety in Rockville should be completed this summer. Crews are installing a pervious concrete sidewalk along Needwood Road from Redland Road to Deer Lake Road and making modifications to the intersection with Redland Road.

The effort is an extension of the Redland Road intersection improvement project that previously installed additional lanes, a mixed use bicycle path, signal improvements, sidewalks, and enhanced storm drains and storm water management along Redland Road.

In the next few weeks, MCDOT will also begin the first phase of bike path construction along Needwood Road from the beginning of Nature Trail, west of Lake Needwood, to the ICC Trail terminus. The nearly one-half-mile, eight-foot-wide shared use path will be constructed along the south side of Needwood Road and is expected to take nine months to complete.
