MCDOT’s Commuter Services
celebrated the 10th
Annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 18 by greeting transit
users and providing information and giveaways at the Silver Spring, Friendship
Heights and Shady Grove Metrorail stations. Transit systems across the country
held events encouraging people to take public transportation and save money.
The national celebration is sponsored by the American Public Transportation
Association (APTA).
Riding public transit can
be an economical way to travel, particularly when gas prices are high. The
latest APTA Transit Savings Report shows that a two person household that
downsizes to one car can save – on the average – more than $9,569 a year.

residents and employees to consider alternative transportation.
