MCDOT New Hampshire Avenue Flash Bus Corridor Update

MCDOT staff enjoyed the opportunity to meet with residents and bus riders at the recent New Hampshire Avenue Corridor Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting on Thursday, May 18. The Project Team introduced three alternative concepts for implementing Flash Bus Corridor  along New Hampshire Avenue and requested input on potential events and locations for engaging with the community. The meeting presentation and summary are now available on the project website for review.

Flash is Montgomery County’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) System. BRT is a high-capacity public transportation system designed to provide efficient, reliable, and rapid bus services. It combines the flexibility and cost-effectiveness of bus transportation with the speed and quality of service comparable to a rail system. BRT systems typically with some dedicated bus lanes, signal priority and pre-boarding payment to facilitate faster service and maintain consistent schedules.

On Saturday, June 3, the project team kicked off the next phase of public outreach at White Oak Day. Throughout this summer, MCDOT staff and the project team will be at bus stops and community events along the corridor to introduce the alternatives, present results from the ongoing evaluation process, collect feedback and answer questions.

If you have suggestions for key community events or venues where we can best reach residents and transit users, please reach out to Corey Pitts at cory.pitts@montgomerycountymd.gov.

MCDOT encourages the public to explore the online webmap and comment on the Flash Bus Corridor alternatives. You can toggle between the alternatives, zoom in to proposed BRT station areas, click on the blue "info" buttons for additional details and context, and use the "Submit a comment" button in the upper right-hand corner to provide feedback on alternatives and station areas.

Public feedback will help MCDOT fine tune the options being considered and shape the project.
