Dockless Bikeshare Begins in Silver Spring Two dockless bikeshare companies, Limebike and Ofo, have begun operations in Silver Spring, making Montgomery County the first suburban jurisdiction in the U.S. to have such a system. Read more. Highway Services Completes Projects to Benefit the Environment Under Partnership with DEP This year, MCDOT swept about 4,000 lane miles of roads and removed 700 tons of abrasives and debris left behind after the winter snow season that would otherwise have found their way into storm drains and eventually waterways. MCDOT also cleaned five miles of pervious pavement to improve stormwater filtering performance. Read more. New Same-Day Service for Metro Access Customers Available in Montgomery County Abilities-Ride is a new same-day service for MetroAccess customers. In Montgomery County, Regency Taxi will be the primary service provider, with some support from other transportation providers. Regency calls this program "ARMON." Read more. Leggett Seeks Applicants for Taxicab Services Commission County Executive Ike Leggett is seeking applicants to fill one vacancy on the Taxicab Services Commission for a non-owner taxicab driver. MCDOT to Hold Public Hearings on Construction of Three Sidewalks On November 7, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation will hold public hearings to present information about proposals to build three sidewalk projects in Kensington, Barnesville and Silver Spring. Read more. Transportation Holiday Schedule on Veterans Day, November 10 Ride On and Metrorail and Metrobus will operate on holiday schedules and the TRiPS Mobile Commuter Store will not operate. MCDOT Leaf Vacuum Collection Begins November 6; Continues Through Mid-December The Montgomery County Department of Transportation’s Division of Highway Services (DHS) will begin its annual collection of leaves in the vacuum leaf collection district starting November 6. DHS provides two collections on every district street during the fall. A third collection may also be provided on an as-needed basis. Read more. MCDOT’s Division of Traffic Engineering and Operations Recognized for Implementation of Cost Saving Idea A team from MCDOT’s Division of Traffic Engineering and Operations (DTEO) was recognized by County Executive Ike Leggett for its participation in the Rewarding Excellence Bonus Incentive Award Program that gives front-line employees who find cost savings half of the first year’s savings.  Read more. Sign up for email updates, get more information about the project or view the activity at the construction site through an onsite camera  online.  Valleywood Drive Pedestrian Bridge Damaged Following Heavy Rain The Valleywood Drive Pedestrian Bridge was severely damaged when, during an intense rain storm, erosion caused one of the bridge abutments to collapse. To ensure the public’s safety, MCDOT removed the damaged bridge. MCDOT is working on designing and constructing a temporary crossing while a permanent replacement is designed. Transit Signal Priority Helping to Speed Ride On extRa Service Along MD Route 355 Did you know that MCDOT has installed transit signal priority (TSP) at 30 signalized intersections along MD 355 to support the new Ride On extRa transit service?  TSP modifies the traffic signal timing to prioritize a Ride On extRa bus, thereby giving bus passengers a shorter overall travel time. Learn more about Ride On extRa. WABA Hosts Community Celebration for Silver Spring’s First Protected Bike Lane MCDOT Director Al Roshdieh joined Councilmembers Roger Berliner, Hans Riemer and Tom Hucker to celebrate the opening of the Spring Street protected bike lanes that included a community bike ride. Read more about the bike lanes. MDOT to Rehabilitate Seminary Road Bridge Over I-495 in Silver Spring The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is rehabilitating the Seminary Road Bridge over I-495 (Capital Beltway). The $6.2 million project is expected to be complete by the end of 2018.  Read more. Portion of Metrorail Red Line to Close for Repairs for 10 Days Starting November 25 The Washington Area Metropolitan Transit Authority (Metro) has announced upcoming track work that will completely close the Red Line between the Silver Spring and Fort Totten stations from November 25 through December 10.  Read more. MCDOT Signs Agreement with Mobike for Dockless Bikeshare in Silver Spring MCDOT and Mobike have signed a pilot project agreement to bring dockless bike sharing to Silver Spring in October. Read more.
